Polytechnic University of Leiria Joins National Council for Pedagogical Innovation in Higher Education

The Polytechnic University of Leiria is now part of the National Council for Pedagogical Innovation in Higher Education (CNIPES). This independent advisory body guides the Portuguese government on educational innovation.

Rogério Costa, a professor at the School of Education and Social Sciences (ESECS), represents IPLeiria on the council. He is also a member of the institution’s Pedagogical Innovation Center (CIP) and the EPIC Consortium—Excellence in Pedagogy and Co-Creation Innovation.

The CNIPES brings together national and international experts linked to higher education, including representatives from the Council of Rectors of Portuguese Universities, the Coordinating Council of Polytechnic Institutes, the Portuguese Association of Private Higher Education, and student federations from both public and private higher education institutions. The council also includes representatives from centers of excellence in pedagogical innovation.

With a strong focus on enhancing teaching practices, CNIPES aims to promote pedagogical innovation and training as key pillars of higher education. Its mission is to improve teaching quality and contribute to student success and well-being across academic communities in Portugal.
