Programme Introduction

The Master’s programme in Didactics of Portuguese as a Global Language aims to complement training in Portuguese (obtained in a first cycle or equivalent degree or through an academic, scientific or professional curriculum considered relevant) with a didactic component that enables students to teach Portuguese as a global language, including as a non-mother tongue, or considering the different varieties of Portuguese). It also aims to promote the development of didactic-pedagogical resources suited to the different contexts and purposes in which the Portuguese language is used, adopting a global and pluricentric perspective.

Objectives

Programme

Considering the aims of the course and the valuing of Portuguese as a global and pluricentric language, the learning objectives are:

  • Prepare teaching-learning programmes for Portuguese as a Non-Mother Tongue (PNMT) and/or programmes that support the development of skills in different varieties of Portuguese, according to specific socio-educational contexts;
  • Design teaching-learning strategies and activities that promote skills in Portuguese as a global language, whether from a Non-Mother Tongue perspective, or from a pluricentric perspective regarding the different varieties of Portuguese;
  • Develop teaching materials to support the teaching-learning process of PNMT and Portuguese as a global, pluricentric language;
  • Promote the use of potential innovative technological resources for teaching PNMT and Portuguese as a global, pluricentric language;
  • Develop research projects on the teaching of PNMT and Portuguese as a global, pluricentric language.

Entry Requirements

  1. Holders of a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields or other fields that include the linguistic description of Portuguese: Applied Portuguese; Portuguese Language and Culture; Language Sciences; Portuguese Studies; Primary School Teachers; Secondary or lower secondary Portuguese teachers; Portuguese Language Teaching; etc.;
  2. Holders of a foreign higher academic degree, obtained as a result of completing the first study cycle organised in compliance with the Bologna Process (for countries that joined this Process), subject to the conditions identified in a.;
  3. Holders of a foreign higher academic degree recognised by the Scientific-Technical Committee and in compliance with first degree goals, without detriment to the conditions identified in a.;
  4. Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum, recognised by the jury appointed by the Scientific-Technical Committee as revealing the capacity to successfully complete the MA degree.
