Open class by researcher Marcos Cardão (Post-doctoral researcher at the Center for Comparative Studies of the University of Lisbon) on the forms of popular culture and mass culture in Luso-tropicalist representations of the Portuguese late-colonial period. The class will take place within the scope of the Contemporary Culture UC of the Master’s in Cultural Management, in the EP1 Auditorium, on November 15th, at 9pm. Marcos Cardão is the author of the book Fado Tropical. Luso-tropicalism in mass culture (1960-1974), Lisbon: Edições Unipop, 2014 and co-author of Gilberto Freyre: new readings, on the other side of the Atlantic, São Paulo: Edusp, 2015.

Marcos Cardão has a PhD in Modern and Contemporary History from ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (2013). He is a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Center for Comparative Studies at the University of Lisbon, where he directs the Post-Colonial Reconfigurations project. History, Nation and Popular Culture, and collaborator at the Institute of Contemporary History (IHC-FCSH).
