Transformation: From Seed Form to Ceramics
Canan Salman
WORKSHOP
MAY 7TH, 9AM
ROOM 11 EP.1
This workshop aims to create ceramic tiles inspired by the forms and textures of seeds while adhering to biophilic design principles, enabling students to create visually appealing and environmentally friendly products. Exploring a variety of seed types, shapes, textures and patterns, students will focus on how elements from nature can be incorporated into man-made environments to enhance well-being through biophilic design principles. They will consider how seed forms can be transformed into ceramic tile designs while retaining their essence and connection to nature. Students explore potential patterns and arrangements inspired by natural seed distributions. The recognisable characteristics of the seed forms are retained and stylised.

Water architecture, ways of existing and imagining
Andreia Garcia
CONFERENCE
MAY 7TH, 10AM
AUDITORIUM EP.1
Water is an endless matter that carries with it a multiplicity of imaginaries, uses and questions. As we know, it is also a symbol of controversial issues and conflicts, which trigger very different political, social, technological and cultural contexts. If today we face the dilemmas of framing abundance and scarcity, it will be from various hydrogeographies and disciplinary intersections that this lecture will be structured. Based on some experiences, propositional models and thought processes arising from the production of knowledge developed as part of the Portuguese Official Representation at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia 2023 – Fertile Futures, this lecture will essentially talk about asymmetry, power, identity, community, sharing and the future.

Primitive Ceramic Fireying
Antónia Labaredas
WORKSHOP
MAY 7TH, 2PM
OUTSIDE CAMPUS
The Workshop aims to fire ceramic pieces using the “primitive method”, that is, firing in the open air using ancestral and elementary techniques. This firing method consists of creating a fire where the clay pieces, through slow and progressive contact with the fire, reach the necessary temperature for them to transform into ceramics. The pieces resulting from this peculiar firing process obtain unique and unrepeatable painting results, resulting from direct contact with fire. The workshop aims to provide students with basic knowledge to fire ceramic pieces.

Nuno Ribeiro
OPEN CLASS
MAY 7TH, 2.30PM
ROOM 51 EP.1
At this moment it’s impossible to remain indifferent to the buzz around Artificial Intelligence. Over the last year and a half, we’ve been impacted by new tools, platforms, and applications of AI almost every day. The way we relate to each other and work is changing, and it is changing into a new reality, the era of collaboration between humans and Artificial Intelligence. Therefore, it is crucial to be aware of this new reality and develop a critical attitude to face the challenges and benefits it brings.
This session aims to demystify the role of AI in the creative process, showcasing how it can serve as a partner rather than a replacement. We’ll showcase real-world examples of AI-assisted projects, introduce AI tools that can enhance your creativity, and how to seamlessly integrate this technology into your workflow.
