SurfoGrafico: Creativity for Sustainable Seas

BIP – BLENDED INTENSIVE PROGRAMME
FROM JUNE 16TH TO 22TH, 2024
OUTSIDE CAMPUS – ESAD.CR

Surfografico is a week-long Blended Intensive Programme in design and societal change is hosted by the School of Art and Design Caldas da Rainha (ESAD.CR | Polytechnic Leiria), in partnership with the Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands, (TUS / Ireland) the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw (PJWSTK Poland) and the Art Academy of Latvia ( LMA, Riga, Latvia).
Surfografico proposes to combine design research, collaborative and sustainable design practices, ocean sports, and storytelling. Between case studies, field trips, sustainable surfing practice and graphic design workshops grounded in sustainable practices, skills in analysis and reflection will be developed, incorporating principles of sustainability, ocean-centered design, and impact through design. The weeklong program transforms a small coastal village into a hub for multidisciplinary conversations to propose ideas for further discussion and implementation. Creating multidisciplinary relationships among science, design, sports, culture, community, and territory will also be a proposed objective.

Blended Intensive Programme 3 ects
Surfboard, wetsuit and required equipment will be provided by the surf school.
The 5 surf lessons will take place between june 17th and 20th, at 8am, 18th is a double session, always at Areia Branca Beach, Lourinhã.
Cyanotype and Screen-Printing Workshops at ESAD. CR. Sustainability in Surfing at ESTM and CETEMARES. Illustration at Areia Branca Beach. All necessary materials will be provided by the organization.
Lunch will be provided on trips to ESAD. CR and ESTM. Other meals are of the participants’ responsibility.
Transportation will be provided between the places where the BIP takes place, only for the realization of the activities.
Accommodation is optional and has an additional cost.
Depending on the weather, there may be some changes to the programme.
