OPEN CLASS
OCTOBER 31ST OF 2024, 3PM
ANFITHEATRE OF EP1 – ESAD.CR
Luan Okun is presenting his research work and video installation as part of an artistic residency at CAU, in which sets out to create “new narratives for racialised and gender-dissident bodies, believing in political and social education as an important tool for individual and collective evolution in the social sphere, proposing to recreate other imagery beyond colonisation, trauma, pain and violence.” Through a conversation about the work, proposes us moments to “rethink corporeality, forms of non-verbal communication and healing methodologies through the ancestral technology of the art of rebolado.”
Luan Okun is a dissident migrant artist living in Lisbon since 2018. Born in Ituiutaba in the interior of Minas Gerais, he began his artistic studies in 2014, studying theatre at the Federal University of Uberlândia, where he began his artistic and performance productions.
He uses corpovivencia as the main tool for making art, and his source of research is the crossings and questions that permeate the racialised body in an individual and subjective way that is totally connected to the collective, starting from a perspective that is not directed towards Europe and the concept of communities, and in search of an understanding of what drives these questions, he has as a source of research and reference works such as Grada Kilomba, Jota Mombaça, Castiel Vitorino Brasileiro, Conceição Evaristo, Bell Hooks, Octavia Butler, Fanon.
