Wind-Eye

Irina Oliveira

(15:00)

Wind is actually air moving due to temperature differences in the atmosphere. Although invisible, it affects our behaviour depending on how angry it is or whether it is so dry and hot, like the desert, which drives people crazy. It is an essential phenomenon for fishermen, it helps them cross the sea and can change the course of their journeys. Next to the sea, on a winter day, I noticed that the force of the wind left the birds motionless no matter what, as they tried to move, as if whispering to them to give up and let themselves go. I realized that the wind both carries and arrests, both cradles and destroys. How can you see and feel the wind? Wind-Eye investigates the concept of the threshold through the figures of the wind, the mirror, and a ghost body. It is a video graphic work with autobiographical elements in which the author reflects on her own personal experiences and the impact they had on her artistic practice. Wind-Eye is multiple: it is located in the interval, on the threshold between apparent opposites such as the interior/exterior. It is a body simultaneously paralyzed, but in constant transit. It is located in the virtual place of the mirror in the gloom of the window, in the bottomless abyss, in the whirlwind of the vortex, in the unsettling strangeness of what should be hidden, but emerged, his body is a ghost: kidnapped by the wind.
