In the first part of this session, António Coelho will discuss the role of the photographer in an archive team, show the work he has been doing, emphasising the importance of adopting objective methods in the digital capture of cultural heritage, as well as the tools, equipment, materials, processes and workflow. In addition to his archival work, António Coelho develops his artistic practice in various photographic projects, which will be the focus of the second part of this open class.
Photographer, specialist in Cultural Heritage Imaging – in agreed standards, formats, content and harmonisation requirements. Coordinator of the Digital Cultural Heritage Working Group of BAD – Portuguese Association of Librarians, Archivists, Information and Documentation Professionals. He teaches Photographic Techniques and Processes: Advanced and Experimental Techniques I at the Lusófona University as part of the Master’s Degree in Photography. He works with the Mário Soares Foundation since 1999, as Library Manager and ICT Specialist, designing best practice protocols, workflows and Quality Control in digital reproduction systems.
As Senior Specialist, he coordinates various projects for the mass digitisation of historical archives and significant art collections; he collaborates with various cultural and scientific institutions to establish protocols and workflows for best practices in the digital representation of cultural heritage materials. His works are showcased since 1999, besides being published in catalogues, book covers and media reports in magazines at a national level. Co-author of the book Um Minuto de Silêncio, with photographs and texts of 60 Portuguese personalities, published by Guerra & Paz in 2008. Member of Grupo do Risco member since 2008.
