Open class with Natxo Checa (Barcelona, 1968), curator, producer, and co-founder of the non-profit cultural association Galeria Zé dos Bois, focusing on his unique career, marked by a broad understanding of both national and international artistic spheres. The session will delve into his long-term involvement with various visual artists and multidisciplinary artistic practices, crucial to their development, his work as a cultural agent and promoter, and his approach to the notions of exhibition, collection, public space, and cultural policy.
Natxo Checa (Barcelona, 1968) is a curator and producer, and co-founded the Galeria Zé dos Bois in 1994, a non-profit cultural association where he continues to work, having curated dozens of exhibitions and projects, and developed an innovative system of artist residencies. He was the curator of the Portuguese representation at the 2009 Venice Biennale, featuring artists João Maria Gusmão and Pedro Paiva, and has continuously collaborated with visual artists such as João Tabarra, Mattia Denisse, Gabriel Abrantes, Tiago Baptista, Pedro Henriques, and Patrícia Almeida. In 2011, he received an honorable mention in the Natércia Campos Award for Best Cultural Producer.
