Joana Rêgo, Visual Artist and Assistant Professor at FBAUP (Department of Visual Arts) will come to talk about her visual work. The artist’s work combines image and word in a complex way. Joana Rêgo has participated in several juries and led several national and international workshops. She completed her PhD at FBAUP (DAD PhD in Art and Design), 2017, and has a Diploma of Advanced Studies in the PhD “Modes of Knowledge in Contemporary Artistic Practice”, 2006 from the University of Vigo — Faculty of Fine Arts of Pontevedra, Spain. She received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Luso-American Development Foundation in 1998/1999 to complete a Masters in Painting at the San Francisco Art Institute, USA, 1999. She has held around 35 solo exhibitions in Portugal and abroad and has participated in several collective exhibitions/projects in Portugal and abroad. Her work is represented in several private and institutional collections in Portugal and abroad, including the Caixa Geral de Depósitos Collection; the PMLJ Foundation; the European Parliament, Brussels; and the Portuguese State Contemporary Art Collection.
Joana Rêgo, besides being a Visual Artist – Painter, is Assistant Professor at FBAUP in the Department of Visual Arts, Painting. In 2001, she received a scholarship from the Tripartite Commission (IAC; Gulbenkian and FLAD) to hold a solo exhibition in Rotterdam – Netherlands, as part of the Porto – Rotterdam European Capitals of Culture project. She has held around 35 solo exhibitions in Portugal and abroad. She has participated in several collective exhibitions/projects in Portugal and abroad. She is represented in several private and institutional collections in Portugal and abroad, including the Caixa Geral de Depósitos Collection; the PMLJ Foundation; the European Parliament, Brussels; and the Portuguese State Contemporary Art Collection. His work is reproduced in several books, book covers and catalogues.
