The Heidi Chronicles follows the path of Heidi Holland as she makes her way through the sixties and eighties. It portrays the great historical movements of the period with a somewhat bittersweet take on late feminism. It precludes a number of events in contemporary society, just before the advent of globalization. The play won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Broadway Play, the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Play, the Tony Award for Best Play, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, all in 1989.
