How to create scenic devices including the presence of the spectator as a constituent element of the show’s dramaturgy, incorporating or replacing the role of performer.
Lígia Soares (Lisbon, 1978) is a Portuguese choreographer and playwright who has been questioning the scenic space as a distanced space. She began her professional work with the Senssuround Theater Company in 1997. In 2001 she founded Máquina Agradável with Andresa Soares, a cultural association that she co-directed until 2014. She was a resident artist at Tanzfabrik-Berlin between 2004 and 2006, and received a scholarship from DanceWeb in 2018 (Vienna). Her work has been presented nationally and internationally and has been featured in various theater and contemporary dance programs. She has promoted several national and international programs with other artists or in collective projects such as Demimonde. “Celebração”, Culturgest 2012, ‘Demimonde na Galeria da Boavista’, 2013, ‘Meio-Mundo Estrada Fora’, Lisbon/Porto/Madrid/Paris, 2014, ‘Face a Face- Programa Luso-Brasileiro de Artes Performativas’, 2015, Brasília, 2016, Rio de Janeiro. In the 2015/2016 season he was a member of the TNDM II theater writing laboratory in Lisbon, for which he wrote the play “Civilização”.
