Mantraste, a major figure in contemporary Portuguese illustration, graduated in Graphic Design and is now a professor at ESAD.CR.
He grew up in Nature and is a lover of folk mysticism, and sees his work as a form of reflection on himself and others, pursuing the path of a folk artist.

Mantraste (Bruno Reis Santos), born in 1988 in Caldas da Rainha, is a Portuguese illustrator and author with a degree in Graphic Design from ESAD.cr. He illustrated more than a hundred covers for authors such as J.G. Ballard, Ali Smith and Michel Rio, and has published books such as “Sebenta do Diabo” and “The Tree as an Antenna to a Spiritual Revolution”.
He taught illustration and risography at several institutions, such as ESAD.cr, Lusófona, IED Madrid and ETIC, and held workshops in Brazil, France and Portugal. He participated in community projects, such as “Meu Bairro do Futuro” (2021) and “Subimos Junt_s?” (2024), and has collaborated with clients such as Apple, Samsung, the New York Times and the Assembly of the Republic.
He has solo and group shows, such as “Manifestation for Little Peace” (2024) and “A Kind of Book” (2022), and received the Municipal Cultural Merit Medal of Caldas da Rainha in 2019.
