ROOM 26 OF EP1 – ESAD.CR

18—25 Research Studio for Architectural Visualization is a laboratory for the construction of architecture images. Our work is a support tool for designers that allows not only to test light and spacial relations but also to finetune chosen materials. In our research on new architectural representation methods we look for alternative paradigms and specific atmospheres. We beleive that an image should quickly communicate the character of a certain environment while having the ability to seduce and stay withheld in our memory. Our constructive principles are based on the rules of classic perspective, the canons of proportion, optical guidlines and photographic composition. 18—25 seeks a balance between cientific vision and a dreamlike representation of an atmosphere. The choice between an accurate point of view, the best frame and the most expresive lighting associated with an attention to detail creates 18—25’s reality.

18—25 is an architecture image construction laboratory founded in 2010 and based in Lisbon. It is currently led by architects Luca Martinucci (1976, Bergamo/Italy) and Filipe Alves (1979, Cascais). The studio is dedicated to researching simulation processes and representation methods related to the architectural universe, intersecting multidisciplinarity and the History of Architecture and Art. With a strong technological component, 18—25’s work includes research in Virtual and Augmented Realities contexts. The studio has been invited to present its work at various conferences at Portuguese universities and in collective exhibitions such as “Inner Space”, with “Aemula Naturae” at MNAC – Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporâneo (5th Lisbon Architecture Triennale, 2019); “Spherical Intersect” at Carpintarias de São Lázaro (Archisummit Lisbon, 2019); “Natural Intelligence, What AI still can’t do?” with “Paradise” at Vivarium Festival (Porto, 2019); “Me myself and my avatar” with “Paradise” at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (USA, 2018); “Utopia/Distopia” with “Paradise” at MAAT – Museu de Arte, Arquitectura e Tecnologia (Lisbon, 2017); “What is Innovation in Architecture?” with “D’aprés Piranesi” at the Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência (Lisbon, 2016); “Lusíada 30 Years Architecture” at the Museu Nacional dos Coches (Lisbon, 2016); “PIXEL/BRICK/PIXEL” at the University of Minho (Guimarães-Portugal 2015); “D’aprés Piranesi” at the Arquiteturas Film Festival (Lisbon, 2013 and 2015); with the visual artist Tomás Hipólito with Persona 3D 9+1 images and video (Baginsky Gallery, Lisbon, 2013).
