THE FUTURE AS AN ADVENTURE
COLLECTIVE EXHIBITION
FROM JUNE 15TH TO JULY 20TH OF 2024
OPENING: JUNE 15TH, 4PM
COOPERATIVA DA COMUNICAÇÃO E CULTURA EM TORRES VEDRAS
A series of postcards published by Ernesto de Sousa, entitled The past as an adventure (1978), was the motto for a collaborative work between Ana João Romana and Isabel Baraona, and 35 artists and collectives. This work, in the form of postcards, was exhibited at the Círculo de Artes Plásticas de Coimbra and sent by post to a large number of recipients. This title combines future and adventure, Ana and Isabel, as visual artists and teachers, are interested in crossing generations and experiences, we weave relationships between those who were our masters and these young people we met at ESAD.CR. We are also interested in expanding the exhibition concept, we want it to be an experience that extends in space and time, with postcards being sent by post. In open dialogue, we want to continue rehearsing possibilities for meeting, an auspicious future.
With Communication and Culture Cooperative, we organized two exhibitions that come together under this motto, but which are divided into two spaces, the Contemporary Culture Center number 9 and number 13, previously known as Câmara Clara and Câmara Escura. At the Culture Center number 9, the main building, we can see, read and flipping through a set of publications produced in the context of the Curricular Unit Artist’s Book of the Degree in Fine Arts. In 2024, Edições da Sala 5 were designed by Alexandra Camacho, Alice Oliveira, Ana Rita Leal Faria, Ana Margarida Pomar, Andreia Domingos, Filipa Almeida, Inês Cardoso, Inês Fernandes, Jo Araújo, Joana Ferreira, José Laranjeira, Lara Domingos, Leonor Bento, Beatriz Coelho, Maria Camacho, Matilde Fernandes, Miriam Durães, Teresa Rodrigues and Tomás Fernandes. This group of ESAD.CR students is joined by ERASMUS program students Eva Jasiulyte, Gedimines Ryolelis and Nuria Pérez García.
Number 13 hosts a heterogeneous group of students who are currently in the second year of the Masters in Fine Arts. Álvaro Nogueira and Margarida Moreira Martins have degrees in Product Design and Ceramics (ESAD.CR); Rubi Gamallo has a degree in Graphic Design (ESAD.CR); Inês Santos, João Soares and Maria Manuel have degrees in Fine Arts (ESAD.CR); Rui Anastácio has a degree in Cultural Programming and Production (ESAD.CR); Fredrik Robens has a degree in Visual Arts from the University of Madeira and in Fine Arts from the Universitat Politècnica de València; and Helena Valsecchi is an artist with an already established path. Nine talented people with different backgrounds and knowledge, who meet here in fruitful conversation. 2024, this time of change resembles another time of change, 1974. I hope the future is a promising adventure.
