Redefining Paradigms: Participation and Dialogue in Cultural Programming

Joana Henriques (MAAT)

OPEN CLASS
NOVEMBER 12TH OF 2024, 11AM
ROOM 44 OF EP1 – ESAD.CR

We explore the transformative power of artistic and cultural mediation, challenging boundaries between public and art. In this session, we rethink the museum as a space of encounter and transformation, where dialog, participation and co-creation redefine cultural experiences. Through innovative approaches, we reflect on how mediation can generate social impact, promote accessibility and make culture an inclusive and shared force. As Claire Bishop says: “Participatory art reflects the urgency of reimagining society as a space of collaboration and empowerment” (Bishop, Claire. Artificial Hells: Participatory Art and the Politics of Spectatorship. London: Verso, 2012).
