Presentation of projects made since 2000 that are linked to each other, as they are proposals for mapping physically existing or poetic/conceptual places.
Mariana Viegas was born in Lisbon in 1969 and lives and works in Arrábida.
She has an Advanced Fine Arts Degree and a Photography Degree from Ar.Co.
She began her career in the 1990s at Kapa magazine. As a stage photographer, she worked with Madragoa/Gemini Films with Pedro Costa, Raquel Freire, Margarida Gil, Manoel de Oliveira, João César Monteiro and João Botelho, among others.
She publishes with Assírio e Alvim, DN, Público and Marie Claire, Grande Reportagem, Le Monde, Libération and Les Inrockuptibles.
Fellow of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation for Location1 in NY 2006/2007. Project supported by DGArtes in 2009. Resident artist at the E. Schiele Foundation in the Czech Republic, GlougAir in Berlin and Fabrikken for Kunst og Design in Copenhagen.
Represented in various collections: Novo Banco Photo, Fundação Leal Rios, PLMJ, Instituto do Livro, Lisbon, Troia Design Hotel, Fundação Ilidio Pinho, Porto, Museu da Imagem, Braga, Duvernois Landscape St., NY, Museu de Arte do Rio, Rio de Janeiro and private collections.
