And we observe that: among us, there exists a small set of collaborative options, we are guided by our common affinities and choices, and we develop the work with the gaze of the other by our side.
We build stories of what we experience or intend to live and/or what we believe can or cannot be turned into fiction.
Along a thread of time, we find common references and unravel the thread of a narrative.
Mariana Viegas was born in Lisbon in 1969 and lives and works in Arrábida.
She completed the Advanced Course in Fine Arts and the Photography Course at Ar.Co. Her journey began in the 1990s with Revista Kapa. As a set photographer, she worked with Madragoa/Gemini Films alongside Pedro Costa, Raquel Freire, Margarida Gil, Manoel de Oliveira, João César Monteiro, João Botelho, among others. Her work has been published by Assírio & Alvim, Diário de Notícias, Público, Marie Claire, Grande Reportagem, Le Monde, Libération, and Les Inrockuptibles. She was a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation grantee for Location1 in New York (2006/2007). Her project received support from DGArtes in 2009. She was an artist-in-residence at the E. Schiele Foundation in the Czech Republic, GlougAir in Berlin, and at Fabrikken for Kunst og Design in Copenhagen. Her work is represented in several collections: Novo Banco Photo, Fundação Leal Rios, PLMJ, Instituto do Livro (Lisbon), Tróia Design Hotel, Fundação Ilídio Pinho (Porto), Museu da Imagem (Braga), Duvernois Landscape St. (NY), Museu de Arte do Rio (Rio de Janeiro), and private collections.
