HOW TO APPLY?

Nomination

The Partner Institution is kindly asked to officially nominate the exchange students by e-mail, specifying the following details:

i) Complete name; ii) Student’s email; iii) Period of exchange; iv) Area and level of studies (at Home University and intended at ESAD.CR).

Application procedure

All nominated exchange students have to send by email the required documents.

Students should ONLY apply for ONE semester (Winter or Spring semester).

REQUIRED APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

• Learning Agreement Before Mobility proposal;
• Portfolio (digital format; up to 200 Mbytes);
• Motivation Letter;
• Transcript of Records;
• Scan of the passport OR ID card;
• 1 passport size photo;
• Proof of language proficiency (statement from Home Institution confirming the student’s level of English);
• Scan of the health insurance (European Health Insurance Card).

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Language of instruction 1: Portuguese;

Language of instruction 2: English (B1 level).

Classes are taught in Portuguese although lecturers are able to provide lessons explanations in English, as well as, briefing writing assignments for evaluation and textbooks in English.

Exchange Students have the opportunity to attend, along each semester, a “Portuguese Language Course” (“PLC”). The course is structured according to the Bologna Process, which will give to the students, the opportunity of crediting (4 ECTS). The course has a unique 50 Euros fee.

STUDY PLAN

Exchange students are allowed to attend subjects (classes) from different years and/or study programs as long as they:

• Do not exceed a total of 30 ECTS;
• Do not exceed 20% of the total of the ECTS (20% x 30 ECTS= 6 ECTS) in subjects (classes) outside from the area of studies to which they have applied;
• Have permission from the Receiving Institution/Host Coordinators and from the Home Coordinators.

PORTUGUESE GRADING SYSTEM

The basic Portuguese grading system consists on a 0 to 20 scale as described below:

• 0 – 09 Fail – considerable further work is required;
• 10-11 Sufficient – performance meets the minimum criteria;
• 12-13 Satisfactory – fair but with some shortcomings;
• 14-16 Good – above the average standard;
• 17-18 Very Good – notable work with minor errors;
• 19-20 Excellent – outstanding performance.

ACCOMMODATION

In Caldas da Rainha, there is one all-female hall and one all-male hall.

The residences halls have central heating, a computer room and common kitchen. Each student is provided with bed sheets, blankets/duvets, a pillow and bath towels. The laundry service for the provided linen is guaranteed by the Students’ Support Services free of charge and students may resort to the self-service laundry to take care of their own personal clothing (washing and drying).

Students have access to cooking facilities (micro-waves, freezer and cooker) but no utilities are provided. Main Contact: sas@ipleiria.pt

LOCATION

ESAD.CR is located in Caldas da Rainha (CR), a pleasant city in the west center of Portugal, 80 km north far from Lisbon and 50 Km south far from Leiria.

HOW TO REACH US?

The easiest way is by bus.

Departing from Lisbon (or Oporto), you will be able to come directly to Caldas da Rainha (1-hour distance from Lisbon; 2 hours and half, from Oporto).

Nearby the residence halls, students can easily find low-cost restaurants and groceries stores.

SPACE AND FACILITIES

The School has a wide-range of technical capacity, having several Workshops, Studios and Laboratories, namely: silkscreen and printmaking; ceramic, plaster and glass; wood; metal; audiovisuals; animation; digital and graphic; common Lab for experimentation and dialogue; theater.

And 2 laboratories – digital prototyping and photography – and 1 photography studio. The Campus is composed by two main buildings (auditorium, practical and theoretical rooms, workshop ‘s rooms, computer office, medical office; administrative services, amphitheater, Black Box), one library, bar and canteen building.
